Dalquharran Castles

A slice of Scottish history at the heart of South Ayrshire

Dalquharran Castles

Dalquharran Estate is home to two Castles, one scheduled monument built in 16th Century, and the other A listed castle built in the 18th. The latter was designed by Robert Adam, the architect of the nearby National Trust landmark, Culzean Castle. Holding great historic and cultural importance, the aim is to protect these local landmarks until they can be safely transferred into community ownership.

Both castles are roofless, but A-listed buildings in their own right. Whilst viewable by the public from the local pathways and walking routes, there is no doubt that these unique pieces of Scottish history should be preserved and protected for future generations.

Whilst there is a lot of other projects taking place around Dalquharran Estate, the hope is that the castles themselves will pass into community or not-for-profit ownership. Work is underway to raise awareness of these local jewels and encourage local people to understand their story and importance for the area.
